The Good Choices and the Bad

The good choices were the place to live, the friends who took her in, and the club she went to.

The bad choice was a third husband.  He was someone who paid a lot of attention to D. Irene.  He was a barista at the alano club she went to all the time and he was good looking.  D. Irene recruited him, believing he was an AA guru when a dear friend thought he was going to to out.  Not only did it turn out this man was not an AA guru, he was a sneak and a thief.  I can't begin to tell the ways in which he used emotional abuse on D. Irene.  The first thing he did was to get her away from her dear friends from the alano club.  She had gone through cancer surgery and recovery with the help of these friends and forged bonds that could not be broken.  Therefore he had to get rid of the friends.  He moved D. Irene to an apartment building away from them by light years in atmosphere.  It was like living in a fish bowl, and D. Irene who is a private person hated it.

The friends having class and discretion did not interfere since they were not asked.  Another mistake of D. Irene's.  She should have told them what was going on.  As it was only the man's boss and a coworker knew.  The coworker quit because he could not take how she was being treated.

D. Irene finally got fed up and walked out one day with all her clothes but not her belongings.  This led to an uncontested divorce which D. Irene paid for, getting the money back only through some quirks of fate.

D. Irene realized in the marriage that she was a for real lesbian.  She stayed as long as she did because she made a commitment..  She now has a financee and is happy.
